Milwaukee car insurance is there for a reason, when a young or novice driver is behind the wheel and gets into an accident with another driver — regardless of who’s at fault — there is a certain set of rules that the unfortunate motorist should follow.
First, check to see if everyone’s alright. Are you driving with passengers? Are the physically okay? Are you? Even collisions at relatively slow speeds can cause injuries.
Second, turn on your hazard lights (if they still work), meaning the button with the red double triangle on it, and if you’re not in the way of traffic, get out of your car. If you are in the line of traffic and the damage is relatively minor, and if your car is still drivable pull off to the side of the road first.
Third, as is recommended by Milwaukee car insurance bureaus and insurance bodies in other cities, call the police. This is under the assumption that no one is hurt — if someone is injured, call an ambulance immediately.
Whether or not the police will come to the scene of an accident will depend on the severity of the accident. If it’s a minor fender-bender, chances are the police will take down the information over the phone. But if there is more significant damage or if someone was injured they will come to the scene. It may be a pain, and something that you don’t want to do, but calling the police and reporting the accident is necessary. Not doing so could complicate your claim.
Fourth, call your insurance company. The sooner they know what happened, the sooner they can help you out. If possible, get out your insurance card have it ready for when you make the call.
Fifth, keep quiet. Be sure that you don’t get into an argument with another driver. Don’t say anything that could imply fault. Keep silent if they start to grill you with questions. The only people you should be talking to are the police, Milwaukee car insurance company (or wherever you live) and your loved-ones. The extent to which you should be talking to the other driver is to get his or her insurance information, phone number and license plate number (you should also give that person this information about yourself, too).
Even if you’re shaken up, find a pen and a scrap of paper and write down the aforementioned information, and also get the personal info of any witnesses. If you can get their insurance company info, more the power to you.
Finally, stay calm. No amount of panicking is going to change the past, or your Milwaukee car insurance claim you’ll have to make. Even the best drivers get in accidents now and then.
